Avalanche Skills Training (AST)

Go farther! Get trained with an Avalanche Canada Training Course

AST 1 certificate

Whether you are an ice climber, sledder, ski tourer or snowshoer, this is the place to begin if you want to venture into avalanche terrain. In this two day course you will learn to recognize avalanche terrain, understand the avalanche forecast, plan trips and perform a companion rescue.

AST 2 certificate

This course is for those who have taken  AST 1 and gained some experience in the backcountry. The curriculum is based around creating a step-by-step model for planning, executing and debriefing a day out in avalanche terrain- we call it the Daily Process. Students plan the days, take the lead (with guidance). Those who complete this course are able to plan a day that is appropriate for the conditions and group ability, as well as improve their companion rescue skills.

AST refresher

This single day course will not give students an Avalanche Canada certificate but is a perfect opportunity to dust off the rust and get up to speed on new techniques. A customizable program to review or go into further detail about anything and everything avalanche skills related!  Minimum of 4 students - bring your buddies and learn together.

Course Dates:

Our AST courses are currently by request only with no set dates. The most cost-effective way is to book with 4-6 people but there is no minimum number required. Booking with people you typically ride with is the best way to maximize your time and money as well as build backcountry partners you can rely on!
